The Global Power City Index (GPCI) 2021, published by the Institute for Urban Strategies at the Mori Memorial Foundation in Japan, rated Dubai first in the Arab world and fifth internationally.

The cultural interaction criterion assesses a city’s performance in terms of leadership, tourism attractions, the amount of cultural facilities, and guest amenities and communication.

Dubai improved from 17th to 14th place overall in the GPCI 2021, which rates over 40 major cities based on their “magnetism,” or general ability to attract creative individuals and businesses from around the world.

Dubai was also placed first in the Arab world in the index’s ‘Economy’ category. Major worldwide cities such as Seoul, Madrid, Vienna, and Helsinki were ranked ahead of the emirate. The GPCI assigns a score to cities based on 70 factors that assess six different aspects: economy, research and development, cultural interaction, livability, environment, and accessibility.

“The vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the leadership of Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, have been instrumental in the development of a unique cultural community in Dubai whose creative potential is set to unfold further in exciting new ways in the coming years,” he added.

Dubai continues to raise the bar and set an example for the region and the rest of the world in terms of realizing human potential, so helping to shape a brighter future for the whole world.
