The Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi (EAD) is partnering with the multinational utility corporation Engie to improve carbon capture in the emirates.

Along its coastline, Abu Dhabi has miles of mangroves, which form a significant part of coastal habitats and help protect land from floods.

In December, Distant Imagery aims to plant at least 4,000 mangrove seeds using its self-engineered drones. To assess the project and the amount of carbon it collects, the company will then proceed to track the rehabilitated region.

“We are very pleased to be rehabilitating mangroves using drone technology in this world-first project. Using the latest technology in our environmental endeavors are core to what we do. Similarly, we are consistently propagating different species and the Blue Carbon Project is another example of that,” said Ahmed Al Hashmi
